Invited Lectures

Integrated Clinical-Computational Analysis of Facial Sagging: Exploring Possible Mechanisms Beneath the Skin Surface

Dr. Roberto Santoprete is a Research Associate and Project Leader at L’Oréal Research & Innovation. His research integrates fundamental physics and biomechanics to decode complex biological systems. His expertise spans the biomechanics of skin and underlying tissues—focusing on aging and sensory perception—to the mechanics of slender structures to control hair shape and movement, and the thin film damage to optimize the durability of cosmetic coatings on skin.

Machine Learning Tools and Applications in Skin Image Analysis

Xavier Descombes is currently a senior researcher at INRIA. He earned an engineering degree from Telecom Paris in 1989, a master’s degree in mathematics from Paris VI University in 1990, and a PhD from Telecom Paris in 1993. He completed postdoctoral research at KUL Leuven, INRIA Côte d’Azur, and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) in Leipzig.

Currently, he leads the Morpheme team, a collaborative group between INRIA, CNRS, and INSERM, focused on the analysis of biomedical images. Xavier Descombes is a pioneer in the application of the marked point process framework to image analysis, particularly for multiple object detection.

His primary research interests include image processing and artificial intelligence applied to biological images, with a special focus on histopathological images.
